With My Art________________ I am a Canadian artist based in Toronto. I have my studio in a building occupied solely by artists and in an area where the artistic happenings of Toronto are taking place. I have lived all my life as an artist... and I still do. My artistic education was completed in Italy, and upon completion of my studies I traveled extensively in Europe. In Italy I studied at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Rome and Venezia. At these institutions I studied sculpture with the artist and professor Fazzini in Rome and with professor Cassani in Venice. Upon returning to Canada I produced a body of work that I exhibited at various galleries, and I also began to produce figurative paintings. Since it became quite evident that in this country it would have been very difficult to find suitable patrons for my sculptures, I began to paint in a loose style and realized that the public was more receptive to my paintings. I abandoned sculpting altogether and dedicated myself to figurative painting. I haven't diverted from this path ever since. The largest work that I have been commissioned on a canvas is a 5 by 7 feet painting. As to my style this portfolio will provide a quick reference of my work. My technique lends itself to images that can be easily discerned at a distance without loosing the efficacy of texture. Petros Martin, 2001
